Forward motion makes up at least 90 percent of most performance events that is why horses should be taught to be soft and responsive to big pressure by going forward and not backward. This will enable to balance the horse beneath you, shifting his weight to his hindquarters, while rounding his back and elevating his shoulders, which improves gait quality and athleticism.
