Conservationists, led by Henry's Fork Foundation, are fighting for the survival and protecting the legendary status of trout water, Henry's Fork of the Snake River, which is a pilgrimage destination for devout trout anglers around the world. The banks of the river were overrun by cattle, liberal bag limits limited productivity, and the river's flows were openly coveted by hydroelectric developers.

It is observed that small reduction in a streams velocity can radically reduce prime spawning and incubation habitats and species like brown trout are vulnerable to reduction in water velocity.
