American golf heroes, who have represented their generation in the game and whose fame extends beyond the boundaries of the game, were determined by asking non-players to name golfers they knew. Bobby Jones, Walter Hagen, Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Greg Norman, and Tiger Woods were named.
