IYRU meeting fallout
Article Abstract:
A settlement brokered by King Harald of Norway ended the jurisdictonal dispute between the IYRU and the Offshore Racing Council (ORC). The ORC will control races involving offshore boats while the IRYU will handle smaller inshore boats. The IYRU has introduced a new racing rulebook.

Laser goes Olympic

Plans for the 1996 Olympics dominated the 1992 International Yacht Racing Union conference. The Laser and the Mistral One-Design classes were added. The Flying Dutchman and Lechner Division II were voted out.

The rules of the 1993-94 Whitbread have been changed to curtail the sail area of the Whitbread 60s and allow the 85-foot maxis to retain a speed advantage. Organizers fear that a W60 might outrun a maxi.
