Effect of training status and relative exercise intensity on physiological responses in men
Article Abstract:
This article compares the physiological responses of trained and untrained subjects during moderate and high-intensity cycling tests. Results indicate that metabolic stress indicators such as plasma lactate, hypoxanthine, and ammonia concentrations were higher in untrained cyclists during the lower intensity test but were similar across groups in the high-intensity condition.

Temperature responses to electrically induced cycling in spinal cord injured persons
Article Abstract:
This article examines changes in body temperature related to cycling induced by electrical muscle stimulation in people with disabling spinal cord injuries. Results indicate that electrically induced exercise resulted in an increase in core and muscle temperature while skin surface temperature remained constant.

Insulin action and long-term electrically induced training in individuals with spinal cord injuries
Article Abstract:
A study is presented that shows that functional electrical stimulation cycle training of the legs of paralyzed individuals helps increase insulin sensitivity. Because of inactivity, spinal cord injury patients are susceptible to hyperinsulinemia.
