Involvement of Cdc2 in axonal regeneration enhanced by exercise training in rats

Article Abstract:

The effects of treadmill training (TMT) on axonal regeneration in the injured sciatic nerve of the rat are examined and cellular and molecular events that underlie enhanced axonal regrowth by training are investigated. Enhanced axonal regrowth in the distal stump of the sciatic nerve is identified 7-14 days after injury in rats with TMT, suggesting that cell division cycle 2 kinase activated in regenerating sciatic nerve plays a major role in TMT-mediated enhancement of axonal regeneration.

Gender differences in the psychological response to weight reduction in judoists

Article Abstract:

Gender-related differences in the psychological response to weight reduction in 43 judoists were examined where twenty-two males and 8 females required weight reduction and 5 males and 8 females did not require weight reduction. The results showed that psychological support should be provided specifically at the beginning of the weight reduction regimen for female judoists who are required to undergo weight reduction before competitions.

Exercise training and energy restriction decrease neutrophil phagocytic activity in judoists

Article Abstract:

This article examines the impact of weight loss due to exercise training and diet on neutrophil function, by studying competitive college judoists. Results show that oxidative bursts increased in all subjects, energy restriction decreased the rate of neutrophils incorporating opsonized zymosan and phaogcyte activity also decreased; the authors conclude that judoists should manage weight reduction through exercise more than through diet.
