Four inboard power combinations were tested in a Luhrs T-250 Open motorboat: twin gasoline engines from Marine Power, twin diesel engines from Yanmar, a single Yanmar diesel and a single Marine Power gasoline engine. The twin gasoline engines were fastest at 39.3 mph.

A Volvo Penta TAMD 72 and a Caterpillar 3208TA diesel engine were tested using an Ocean Yachts 38 Super Sport. The Volvo was faster, more efficient and noisier. The Caterpillar offered the advantage of a proven track record.
