Ohio State linebacker Andy Katzenmoyer is expected to play a large role in his team's success during the 1998 season. Katzenmoyer has shed some weight and improved his outlook on the game in preparation for winning his second consecutive Butkus Award, which goes to the season's top linebacker.

NFL star Sanders has not been a member of a championship team since he was in junior high. Sanders is arguably the best running back in the NFL, but in his six seasons with the Detroit Lions prior to 1995 the closest he has come to reaching the Super Bowl was the 1992 NFC championship game.
