The toughest golf shots are hitting downhill with an iron or uphill with a wood. A golfer must maintain balance and judge the slope correctly to avoid a upswing or digging into the dirt with the club. The correct way to address the ball and backswing and upswing techniques are described.

The best way to play a ball less than 20 yards from the hole and in greenside rough is to use a sand wedge to make a heavy, aggressive shot. The shot is deceptive, and many players swing too slowly.
