Learning to fly
Article Abstract:
Swimmer Tom Boettcher believes that the best swimmers of the future will be those who know how use their bodies rather than solely their arms to propel themselves through water. Boettcher has developed a technique which he calls the 'dolphin debutante,' which is based on the founding principle in most martial arts disciplines. This requires swimmers to focus on their balancing their bodies on the heads of their femurs to generate energy at the core of their body mass. Boettcher outlines a series of steps for learning the dolphin debutante.

An editor narrates how a Masters meet helped her develop a positive attitude towards swimming competitions. The editor realized that the concept of competing without unrealistic expectations or pressure enables a swimmer to enjoy swimming competitions. The relaxed attitudes of the writer's teammates at Asphalt Green in New York City, NY, also greatly helped her in dealing positively with competitions.
