Measuring physical activity with the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System
Article Abstract:
This article examines methods of measuring physical activity in the United States based on the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System. Current measures indicate that only about twenty percent of adults engage in adequate physical activity and that more standardized surveillance methods are needed to help address this public health problem.

Stage of readiness to exercise in ethnically diverse women: a U.S. survey
Article Abstract:
This article examines exercise readiness and participation among women from different ethnic backgrounds. Findings indicate that more than half of the participants engaged in regular exercise and that there were a reduced number of black women in active stages of exercise readiness when compared to Native American and Hispanic women.

Levels of physical activity and inactivity in children and adults in the United States: current evidence and research issues
Article Abstract:
Research survey data indicate that 63.8% of children participated in vigorous exercise and 27.7% of adults met the criteria of moderate to vigorous exercise. Improvements in the research methods and suggestions of other areas for investigation are presented.
