Life and death in Dakar: Triumph through tragedy in Africa

The Dakar Rally, established in 1979 is the toughest offroad event in the world, crossing more than 5,500 miles terrain. The 2005 event of this race is expected to be the most dangerous, following the deaths of Spain's Jose Manuel Perez and two-time winner Fabrizo Meoni, the most tragic in the vent's 27-year history.

The 3-day Nevada Rally Experience (NRE), a summer camp which runs safely within the confines of a remote and spectacular section of eastern Nevada with its terrain is described. Held in Eastern Nevada, this motorcycle rally, gives a taste of what is involved in a Dakar-style rally for an entry fee of $370.

BMW wins Dakar

BMW motorcyclists topped both men and women categories in the 1999 Granada-Dakar Rally. Rider Richard Sainct won his first Dakar victory with the BMW F650 Funduro while Andrea Mayer was hailed as the top woman finisher.
