Stephen Capra and Sam Wainer began their trek along the Continental Divide at Antelope Wells, NM, on Mar 24, 1991 and ended the 3,100 mile journey on Oct 19, 1991. They were drawing attention to the threat of oil drilling in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge but were most impressed by the 'senselessness of current logging practices.'

The short and the fat

Several skiers field tested eight, short and wide skis with respect to the maneuverability for backcountry skiing. The eight were the Asnes Utah, the Atomic Tourcap Light, the Black Diamond Badlands, the Fischer Phantom, the Garmont Uinta, the Karhu Outbound, the Kazama Cornice and the Tua Transalp.
