The Ladies Professional Golf Association had four major tournaments until a Canadian law banned tobacco companies from sponsoring events, thus ending the du Maurier Classic. LPGA officials are seeking to find a new tournament to join the remaining three majors.

Quail Hollow Country Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, will host the $5.6 million Wachovia Championship May 8-11. The course was redesigned in 1997, and the last three holes are now more challenging. Quail Hollow hosted the Kemper Open from 1969 to 1979.

Each year between 800 and 900 golfers enter the PGA Qualifying Tournament, commonly called the 'Q School.' Entrants need two letters of recommendation and must pay a fee of $2,750.
