Mechanisms of mitochondrial disease and the role of exercise: A symposium
Article Abstract:
A symposium was organized to improve the understanding of the mechanisms of mitochondrial disease and the role of exercise to mitochondrial diseases. The variable range of exercise intolerance attributable to the combined effects of impaired mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation and habitual physical inactivity were presented.

How is mitochondrial biogenesis affected in mitochondrial disease?
Article Abstract:
A broad range of mitochondrial-specific diseases, termed as mitochondrial myopathies exist in muscles due to mutation in nuclear DNA or mitochondrial DNA. These mutations result in dysfunctional mitochondrial assembly that ultimately leads to reduced ATP production.
