Backpackers stranded without a tent for the night must avoid panicking and survey the environment for a shelter or the materials to make one. Several tips are given, including using a log, grass, boughs to create a small shelter. The dangers of exposure to the elements are also discussed.

Tiros I Tent

The Sierra Designs Tiros I is an excellent all-weather tent that is easy to put up, having no pole sleeves to thread. It also has knuckled locking ends on the poles and is taut, even in the most turbulent weather. The tent weighs seven points and will sleep two. The cost is $365.

Stephenson tents
