Obtain latitude from Polaris
Article Abstract:
Steps are given on how sailors can use the North Star or Polaris in navigation. Polaris is above the North Pole and so its geographical position is also the North Pole. This feature makes Polaris useful to navigators since any position circle will be a latitude. The method is useless in Australia since Polaris can only be seen in the Northern Hemisphere.
