Elk hunters often need to be good trackers because elk may travel substantial distances, even if wounded. In order to track elk, it is necessary to recognize their hoof tracks and pellet droppings, which are similar to those of a moose. These and other tracking details are discussed.

The whitetail buck is most active in the mornings between six and eight. This is the best time to hunt, while they are looking for food in the chill of the fall and less likely to be as guarded as normal.
