The Hewlett-Packard International Women's Challenge offers $100,000 in prize money for women cycling enthusiasts. It will be held in Idaho on June 15, 1998 and is expected to attract an estimate of more than 100 participants. The bike race is influenced by other competitions held in Europe.

Media coverage for mountain bike competition in off-road stage racing is slim. part of the reason is that mountain bikers endure more physical hardships than on-road bike riders, so they cannot join races consecutively. Suitable terrain for off-road races is almost impossible to find.
