The sport of indoor motorcycle racing trials has been popular in Japan and Europe since the early 1980s and may be gaining popularity in the US. Two reason for this are the new riding style pioneered by Bernie Schreiber and the increased promotion of the events.

The fifth annual Cycle World Grand Prix European Tour took place in Assen, Holland in Jun 1997. The 250 GP division of the race was won by Tetsuya Harada while the 500 GP was won by Mike Doohan. Spectators of the event also got a chance to tour Munich, Germany.
