Issues concerning the hunting of pheasants on publically owned lands are presented. Planning tactics should include preseason scouting, planning a strategy well in advance, choosing a good time, and finding places free from other hunters such as areas of dense cover.

Pheasant hunters are often frustrated by the bird's ability to run and avoid detection. Hunters can deceive the birds and flush them from their cover if they are quiet and post blockers to obtain a successful hunt. Other techniques are described.
