The congenital long QT syndrome and implications for young athletes
Article Abstract:
The congenital long QT syndrome (LQTS) is caused by cardiac ion channel mutations, which predispose young individuals to sudden cardiac death often related to exercise. A review of the pathophysiology, clinical characteristics, and management of LQTS in the physically active and athletic population is presented, together with recommendations for its management in the physically active and active population.

Heart attacks and lower-limb function in master endurance athletes
Article Abstract:
Middle-aged male competitive master runners with a history of long-term training have a lower risk of heart attack and lower-limb disability than more sedentary men. Hip and knee pain tended to be less pronounced in the athlete group, although non-runners complained less of knee osteoarthritis and related pain.
