Physical work capacity after 7 wk of wheelchair training: effect of intensity in able-bodied subjects
Article Abstract:
A group of 27 able-bodied men participated in a study aimed to examine the changes in upper body strength during the early rehabilitative stages for people who must be confined to a wheelchair. Maximal isometric strength, sprint power, and maximal aerobic capacity were measured. Training at 50% and 70% intensity resulted in favorable improvements in physical capacity, and 50% intensity may be more appropriate for novice wheelchair operators. Able-bodied subjects were used so complete experimental designs could be utilized, and the results correlate to actual rehabilitation.

Contributions of selected fundamental factors to wheelchair basketball performance
Article Abstract:
The contributions of selected fundamental factors including arm length, sitting height, simple vision reaction time (SVRT), choice vision reaction time (CVRT) and wrist joints to wheelchair basketball (WCB) performance as measured by season statistics and coaches evaluation is determined. It is concluded that the shoulder internal rotation, and elbow extension are important to WCB performance and should be addressed in WCB training.
