Physically active subjects should be the control group
Article Abstract:
Most publications with a physical exercise group use sedentary subjects as 'control' group, thus a commentary contending on an alternative approach based on the premise that physically active individuals are healthy than sedentary individuals, and therefore should compose the control group is given. Organizations such as American College of Sports Medicine have members who have contributed studies proving that subjects with moderate physical activity are healthier than sedentary individuals.

Treadmill versus shuttle walk tests of walking ability in intermittent claudication
Article Abstract:
The treadmill and shuttle walk tests were compared for assessing functional capacity in patients with intermittent claudication with respect to test-reliability, cardiovascular responses and patient preferences. These findings indicated that shuttle walk testing exhibits similar test-reliability as treadmill testing, but that it evoked a lower level of cardiovascular stress and is preferred to treadmill testing by a large proportion of patients.
