Policing the race: U.S. men's distance running and the crisis of whiteness

Article Abstract:

An attempt is made to draw from a comprehensive search of major US newspapers, running magazines, and popular Internet sites to critically interrogate public discourses of the whiteness of male US distance running in the 1990s and early 2000s. The particular moments that constitute and rupture US distance-running narratives in ways that deconstruct White mythologies of race is examined.
