Saved by saints on a space-age island

Ascension island is about 700 miles northwest of the island of St. Helena in the South Atlantic Ocean and offers a skyline featuring antennas, dish aerials, satellite-tracking devices, and communication towers. The U.S. Airforce has a sizeable presence and so does the British Royal Air Force, the European space program and the BBC making it look like a space-age island.
