More trout can be caught year-round in small streams by using several techniques and flies. Anglers need to take drag into consideration and cast in a manner that appears natural to the fish. Methods to employ under various conditions are analyzed.

Nibbling at the edges of lakes

Trout are often found in the shallow water at the edges of lakes where aquatic plants harbor the insects that the fish feed on. Fly selections for shallow water should include dries, nymphs, wets and streamers.
