An account is presented of the TV commentator Ian Baker-Finch, who was required to discuss the 'choking' of professional golf players during a broadcast in June 2001. Among the memorable 'chokes' discussed were those of Retief Goosen at the Southern Hills Country Club, in the final round of the US Open.

The 1996 Masters championship at Augusta, GA, was won for the third time by Britain's Nick Faldo, but it was Greg Norman's historic collapse that was the main story. Norman had been the leader throughout the tournament and was playing brilliantly until the final round when he blew a six-shot lead.

The 1997 US Open which was the 97th such match featured a large crowd and four players tied for lead in the back nine. Ernie Els was the top finisher for a purse of $465,000. Colin Montgomerie was second for $275,000. Highlights in the tournament play are described.
