Automobile racing driver Shelly Anderson has become the fastest woman in motor sports. Anderson, who holds the National Hot Rod Assn's elapsed-time record, has also driven the second-fastest speed in the history of drag racing. Anderson grew up loving the sport and hoping to be a racing driver.

There were various jokes about the National Assn for Stock Car Auto Racing's decision to establish a racing series for pickup trucks, but the new NASCAR SuperTruck series is proving to be extremely popular. The trucks, however, are basically Winston Cup stock cars in the disguise of trucks.

Racing cars, which were once designed with aesthetic considerations in mind, are now designed by computers to conform to the latest in engineering efficiency and rule changes. Ugly cars are the result of such design, and it may ultimately be up to the fans to force a return to good taste.
