Yachtsman Steve Fossett and his crew overtook 'Windward Passage' record mark by seven hours with their trimaran 'Lakota' in the Pineapple Cup. The latter is an 811-mile offshore race from Miami, FL, to Montego Bay, Jamaica. 'Lakota,' made of carbon/Nomex hulls, has had minimal maintenance since 1990.

Gio rescues Isa, Marc drops rig
Article Abstract:
The third leg of the Around Alone, Class I 60-foot sailboat race, saw Isabelle Autissier's boat PRB capsized off Cape Horn. She was later rescued by fellow racer Giovanni Soldini. Marc Thiercelin suffered a similar fate when his mast broke in the South Atlantic after crossing the Southern Ocean.
