A couple were caught into a storm that caused several parts of the boat missing and a rescue team towing the boat safely to Neah Bay on a three week delay trip from Vancouver Island to Florida, on Spencer 44 sloop Alia. A wrong move to go sailing when there would be storm force winds had resulted in a number of costly repairs and the outcome could be worse.

A study on improving anchoring in deep water as most anchors are designed to dig into a sand or mud-bottom and secure the boat against the horizontal loads of wind, waves, and current. It concluded that the 5:1 scope is regarded as most correct anchoring overnight with all-chain rode in deep water.
