The techniques of maintaining maximum boat engine power are presented. Engines should be run frequently to maintain their efficiency. The loss of power which is attributed to bottom fouling by marine organisms and to the build up of excess weight inside the boat are discussed.

Diesel engines require at least an oil-bathed or paper air filter or closed crankcase breather system to prevent salt mist and other debris from being ingested by the engine. Delta 'T' Systems has developed a engine ventilation system recommended for damp, salty engine rooms.

The $2,000 oil change: bad things happen to good generators when you ignore the owner's manual
Article Abstract:
An experience aboard the boat Second Chance has taught a group of boaters the importance of reading owner's manuals of boat engines. The primer lever was bent during an oil change, depriving the engine of fuel and causing it to fail to start. Consulting the manual would have prevented the incident.
