What are Beacons?
Article Abstract:
The UK government has launched a scheme to reward projects which make an important contribution to the National Health Service. It has allocated resources for a series of awards which will be called Beacons. A general practitioner practice could win 4,000 pounds sterling and a hospital project could win 25,000 pounds sterling. There will also be an overall Nye Bevan Award winner. Projects may win awards due to factors including their effects on waiting lists or patient health or their usage of staff talents The awards will be made annually in response to bids.
