The British motorcycle industry could have retained world leadership had it heeded the suggestions of engineer Bert Hopwood. Hopwood's recommendations, such as the scrapping of the 350cc dohc Twin for BSA/Triumph and the development of modularly designed motorcycles, were shrugged by industry.
