The age of reliance and an America's cup dynasty
Article Abstract:
Temple to the wind is a carefully researched story of Nathanael Hereshoff-designed Reliance and her successful 1903 defense of America's Cup against Lipton's earlier yacht, Shamrock III. It recounts the remarkable career of Captain Nat, when as a 9-year old he helped his blind old brother, John Brown Herreshoff, build a small sailing skiff at their home in Bristol, Rhode Island.
