Black cohosh, a plant used by Native Americans for women's ills, was the active ingredient in the Lydia Pinkham's Vegetable Compound sold during the 1870s by one of America's first women entrepreneurs. Black cohosh, a woodland herb, is beneficial for premenstrual and menstrual illnesses.

The secrets of Saint-John's-wort

Research indicates that Saint-John's-wort, also known as Hypericum perforatum, is effective in the treatment of symptoms associated with mild depression. About 80% of 3,250 patients treated with the herb, experienced an improvement in symptoms or total recovery.
