The effect of bovine colostrum supplementation on salivary IgA in distance runners
Article Abstract:
The effects of bovine colostrums on levels of secretory IgA (s-IgA) in distance runners in their normal training environment with the aim of establishing a valid saliva sampling and test methodology and to control for known variables that can affect levels of s-IgA is investigated. Results show an increase in salivary IgA levels in athletes taking bovine colostrums supplementation, and indicate that the methodology is sufficiently sensitive to detect changes occurring in salivary IfA, in the field, among athletes undertaking marathon-type training.

Postexercise carbohydrate-protein-antioxidant ingestion decreases plasma creatine kinase and muscle soreness
Article Abstract:
The influence of postexercise carbohydrate-protein-antioxidant (CHO+P+A) ingestion on plasma creatine kinase (CK), muscle soreness and resultant cross-country race performance was studied on 23 runners. It was determined that postexercise ingestion of carbohydrate-protein-antioxidant (CHO+P+A) reduced the muscle damage during training and resulted in better performance in high-mileage runners.

Food and macronutrient intake of elite Kenyan distance runners
Article Abstract:
The food and macronutrient intake of elite Kenyan runners was compared to recommendations for endurance athletes. Although the diet met most recommendations for endurance athletes for macronutrient intake, it remains to be determined if modifying energy balance and fluid intake will enhance the performance of elite Kenyan runners.
