Are artesanal cooperatives in Guatemala unraveling?
Article Abstract:
The structures of three artesanal cooperatives and the influence of large federations on individual cooperatives in Guatemala have been examined. The study focuses on the nation's artesanal weaving sector and how ARTEXCO compromised women's cooperative enterprises in Guatemala. Findings show how ARTEXCO has weakened the country's handicrafts industries while having a counterproductive impact on its traditional weaving industry through its economic practices and policies.

Megacity, mega mess...
Article Abstract:
Pollution in Indonesia's capital, Jakarta is easy to observe and the causes are also easy to pinpoint however the effects on its inhabitants' well-being are harder to quantify. The population of this megacity is predicted to grow by a third in the next decade, part of a global trend towards urbanization and hence, Jakarta might provide a pointer to a future in which urban pollution becomes a main player in the disease burden of the developing world.
