There is a growing interest in shooting among young people. After years of declining shooting activities, events by groups such as the 4-H Clubs of America, the National Rifle Assn, the Boy Scouts, and the Hunter Education Assn have brought about a renewed interest in the sport.

Indiscriminate logging practices are destroying the winter deer range of northern forest deer. Wildlife agencies are attempting to educate landowners and timber companies about timber harvesting techniques that preserve forest ecology.
