The physics of sailing, part II: sail trim
Article Abstract:
Understanding the interacting forces acting on a sailboat in motion can help a sailor optimize the positioning of his sails for boat balance and speed. The force of the wind on the sail propelling the boat forward also causes the boat to heel and helm which can be counteracted by adjusting weight distribution or adjusting the sails to attenuate for wind force.
