The tyranny of performance
Article Abstract:
An unintended and unwelcome consequence of improvements in ski equipment has been the increase in knee injuries. Boots are now made to encase the leg higher and more stiffly, preventing injuries to the lower leg, but making the knee bear the brunt of stress. Safety education, while useful, is impractical on a large scale. Manufacturer's producing a wider range of ski equipment is the most meaningful solution to the problem.
