"The way New Zealanders would like to see themselves": Reading white masculinity via media coverage of the death of Sir Peter Blake
Article Abstract:
The media narratives accompanying the tragic death of America's Cup sailor and New Zealand adventurer Sir Peter Blake are explored to interrogate the ways in which whiteness colonizes images of masculinity and nation in the face of instability. The analysis demonstrates that the presumably New Zealand values attributed to Blake as a modest, egalitarian adventurer actually represent a very specific version of white masculinity.
