Article Abstract:
The sailboat race began in 1982 with 17 cruisers, which included founder David White, competing for the crown. The race was won by Frenchman Philip Jeantot who won the second race in 1986. The event was held again in 1990 and 1994 and will be held for the fifth time in 1998.

100 years of racing history
Article Abstract:
The Yacht Racing Assn of Long Island Sound, which was established in 1895, has played an important role in the racing history of the Sound. It has ties to many yacht racers, including several America's Cup competitors.

The search for speed
Article Abstract:
Large catamarans and monohulls stabilized with hydrofoils were the speed sailing innovations of the 1970s. In the 1980s and 1990s these sailboats continued to increase sailing speed records by nearly one knot per year.
