In-line skating will provide runners with an alternative activity when swimming is not possible or desirable. Athletes should wear protective gear, skate on a level surface and become proficient at turning and braking. It does not provide the aerobic workout running does.

Climbing the walls

Treadwalls are 12 ft high, revolving climbing walls at some fitness clubs. They improve upper body strength, trunk maneuverability and leg strength as well as provide an aerobic workout. This activity can aid runners in their training.

Body fat percentages for male and female runners can be roughly determined with the help of a tape measure. After measuring the abdomen, thigh and calf, these figures are inserted into an equation. A sample is given.
