The 1995 Tour de France will be remembered as the race where Miguel Indurain won his fifth consecutive victory, an unprecedented feat in the history of the race. Unfortunately, the 1995 event also saw the death of Fabio Casartelli, who fractured his skull after crashing during a descent in the 15th stage of the race.

Cyclist Miguel Indurain V lost the 1996 Tour de France championship to Bjarne Riis. Unlike his previous outings, Indurain appeared weak and aged through the 1996 tour. However, observers do not dismiss his chances of regaining the Tour de France crown.
