Tuamotus no longer a dreaded destination
Article Abstract:
Taumotu Archipelago known as 'Dangerous Archipelago' that was once dreaded and avoided by sailors has now become a favorite cruising ground conveniently located halfway between the Marquesas and Tahiti. In the year 1977, when Jimmy Cornell first sailed through the area, some islands were off-limits because of the French nuclear test at the Mururoa atoll, but the low carol atolls and reefs gave the group its ominous name.
