A man who was part of a crew that sailed the Southern Ocean to Antarctica. The trip to Commonwealth Bay was cold, and there was no heater aboard the vessel. The experiences of a couple who spent a long period of time in a hut built by explorer Douglas Mawson are also described.

A singlehanded sailing voyage across the Pacific Ocean from Fatu Hiva to the Philippines aboard a 15-foot dugout canoe is described. Navigation was done without a compass and birds were often used to find land.
