Vendee-Globe disasters and rescues
Article Abstract:
The Vendee-Globe Challenge, a singlehanded nonstop race around the globe, accomplished 3 successful rescues during the course of the competition. The accidents involved the non-competitor Raphael Dinelli and competitors Thiery Dubois and Tony Bullimore whose ships were overturned by large waves.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, despite downsizing rumors, is becoming involved in innovative technology projects, along with programs designed to increase public involvement and management advances. The goal of the project is to improve the marine environment.

Kids play hard at IYRU O'Neill, youth championships
Article Abstract:
The New York Yacht Club hosted the sailing championships at Newport, Rhode Island, Jul 8-16. 1996. Under-18 years of age sailers competed for gold, silver and bronze medals. Six classes competed in 11 races each. Several events are described and winners noted.
