Article Abstract:
The threat posed by farming to the survival of native freshwater fish species underscores the need for new farming practices that have no adverse effect on the quality of water in lakes, streams and rivers. These agricultural practices should be capable of preventing runoff which is considered as the biggest source of freshwater pollution.

Pheasant paradise

South Dakota farmer Dave Konechne has successfully encouraged the growth of the native pheasant population on his 3,000 acre farm spread. After his grain harvests were beset by dry weather, Konechne decided to supplement his income by providing access to his pheasant-rich land to hunters at a price.
