Fastpacking allows backpackers to cover up to 20 miles per day by carrying less weight and hiking in running shoes. One man describes his experiences fastpacking on the Gore Range Trail in Colorado. Although he enjoyed the light pack, he missed the slower pace of traditional backpacking.

The battle of the bug
Article Abstract:
Ben's 100, which contains 100% DEET, proved the most effective bug repellent in a test of 10 different products. However, some of the natural products also performed well such as All Terrain and Green Ban Double Strength. Avon's Skin-So-Soft was not very effective.

Close it down! If you truly love wilderness, sometimes it's the right thing to do
Article Abstract:
Areas such as Indian Peaks Wilderness, CO, have been trampled by hikers, and the Forest Service should close it for the decade it needs to recover. Many hikers took surprising offense to such a proposal, even though they had other nature areas nearby.
